The Maple Valley Creative Arts Council proudly presents the Fifteenth Annual Arts Festival hosted at the
Lake Wilderness Lodge (22500 SE 248th, MV). This popular event coincides with the annual community celebration, Maple Valley Days and is the must see highlight of the weekend. Arts Festival will include a live performance area (poetry, music, dance, etc.), indoor gallery space for display of visual arts, artists' demonstrations and hands on art activities for children.
NEW this year will be a special Saturday Night Open Mic. We are adding this very popular event to celebrate our 15th anniversary of supporting and cultivating local artists .  Along with the amazing talent that Open Mic attracts, we will have our first Poetry Slam.  Also check out the
Photo Page for last year's Arts Festival award winning artwork.

Meet the Juror ~ Kelly Lyles

Kelly Lyles's experiences growing up in Europe, Japan and the U.S. are reflected in her contemporary work.  She received her fine arts education from Drake University, Academy of Art College San Francisco, Academy of Realist Art, Seattle Academy of Fine Art, Gage and Artist’s Trust EDGE.

She has received numerous awards and has had her work included in collections of the Whitehouse, local civic arts, Bellevue Art Museum, Tom Robbins and others.  Her graphic work for clients has included top advertising and design agencies, book publishers and film and video production companies.

“ Life is a lot of fun, and I'd like the viewers to share that in my work. After years in commercial art as a designer and illustrator, I'm now focusing on painting. My paintings (and sculptural Artcars) have been shown all over the U.S., in galleries and a few Museums. I've a number of different 'styles' and media, but all are based on representational art steeped in classical training. I have done trompe L'oeil ("fool the eye") paintings on furniture, portraits (both people and pets), murals and various pieces with the humor as important as the technique.
This series is whimsical paintings of animals with 'all-american' household products (ie, SPAM-STER, MICE-A-RONI, STAR-DUCKS coffee, etc).  In these, there are subliminal messages regarding "mass-media, marketing, consumerism" et al. But primarily these are a simple love of animals, verbiage and the physical representation of the wordplay, scale and juxtaposition of such disparate subject matter, based on puns and alliteration.

My paintings (and sculptural Artcars) have been shown all over the U.S., in galleries and a few Museums. My studio, home & Artcars have been featured in innumerable television shows and magazine/newspaper articles. A bibliography would include Harrod Blank’s 2 ‘Artcars’ books and his '08 film. Wierd Washington book. National Television (Travel channel, Discovery,  Odyssey Network, HGTV), International (Canada's Wierd Wheels) & local television (NorthWest Afternoon, Evening Magazine), local News, Public Radio, local, national (NY Times) and world newspapers (South African, Italian) and magazines (Woman’s World, National Geographic Kids).”   - Kelly Lyles

Youth and Children's Art Shows

Come see our up and coming young artists!  We are very fortunate to have such talented students creating amazing visual arts!  This year, the Arts Festival has expanded to include students' work from grades Kindergarten through the 12th grades.  The Children’s Art Show includes grades K – 7th and is displayed in the Lodge’s lower level.  The Youth Art Show, grades 8th - 12th is displayed on the upper level of the Lodge.  See below for registration form.

We will also have free, fun hands-on art activities for children in the lower level to explore their inner Picasso.

Sunday 1:30 - 4:30    Gary LaTurner

"Impressionistic art has always been my interest, using my imagination to create people, places and things. I enjoy traveling to local sites on painting trips. Many of my landscapes have been inspired by drives across Washington State as well as some of the images I remember from travel in many foreign countries. I work in watercolor and with oil bars.  As an artist/educator, I continue to work to support quality art experiences for children and their teachers."
